Fall KAL - Cryin' Icicles
This fall we are featuring the Reading Cardigan as a KAL, but we understand that it is a project that may not suit everyone’s style, budget, or skill level- or you might just not be a sweater knitter. For those of you who would like to knit something different, we are also knitting along the Cryin’ Icicles cowl pattern.
This free pattern uses needle size changes to create the shaping in the pattern, meaning there are no increases or decreases. The stitch pattern remains the same throughout the pattern, all you need is some interchangeable needle tips and a cord. When you finish the repeats with one needle size, you can simply swap the tips to the next. We have a variety of needles available here. If you like metal needles, the Mindful Collection has tips and cords or you can invest in a set like this which will have all the tips and cords you will need for this project and many future projects. If you prefer wood, Lykke has tips and cords available as does Knitters Pride- shop Dreamz tips and cords here.
I used a locking marker in the last yarn over spot of my cowl when I changed needles, that way it was easy for me to track how many repeats I had done in a specific needle size. You will also need a marker to note the beginning of round.
I knit my sample with Blue Sky Fibers Extra for an ultra-soft, warm cowl. It can also be done in Berroco Mercado. Two skeins of Extra or three of Mercado are all you need to complete the pattern. You can get 10% off three skeins of Extra or Mercado to participate in the KAL when you use code 2023KALCOWL online. This discount cannot be applied retroactively, so please be sure you enter it online before checking out. You can also get this discount in-store, just let us know you are participating!
This KAL project is perfectly suited to beginner knitters! Knit, purl and yarn over are the only skills you need to make this cowl. We hope you will join us for this KAL, the Reading Cardigan KAL or both!
